Etimología editar
Del protoitálico *ming-e/o- o *meiχ(j)e- (no se sabe con seguridad si es mingō o mēiō la forma más antigua), y este del protoindoeuropeo *h₃meiǵʰ-.1 Compárese el sánscrito मेहति (mehati), el griego antiguo ὀμείχω (omeíkʰō), el lituano mỹžti y el inglés antiguo mīgan.1
