Etimología editar
Del protoindoeuropeo *penkʷē-ḱomt-h₂. La vocal larga (ē) señala muy probablemente la simplificación de *penkʷe-dḱomt-h₂ ("cinco décadas"). Compárese el griego antiguo πεντήκοντα (pentēkonta), el sánscrito पञ्चाशत् (pañcāśát) y el avéstico pančāsatəm.1
