Del protoitálico *seksāgmta, y este del protoindoeuropeo *(s)ueks-ḱomt-h₂ del protoindoeuropeo *(s)ueks-dḱomt-h₂ ("seis décadas"). Compárese el griego antiguo ἑξήκοντα (heksēkonta).1
