Etimología editar

Del protoitálico *wow-eje-/*wow-ejo- ("prometer"), y este del protoindoeuropeo *h₁uogʷʰ-eie- ("prometer") (de *h₁uegᵘʰ-).1 Compárese el sánscrito वाघत् (óha-, "alabanza"), वाघत् (vāghát, "cantante", "sacerdote") y el griego antiguo εὔχομαι (eýkʰomai, "rezar").1
