Hello! We have to distinguish between two cases here:

  • mostly in America and in certain regions of Spain, like Andalucia and the Canary Islands, the only pronoun used for referring to the second person plural is "ustedes"; moreover, it shares the same verb forms as the third person one, "ellos/as", so we say ustedes (dos) comenyou (both) eat, ellos comenthey eat
  • in the remaining part of Spain, the pronoun "vosotros/as" is used for the informal second person (plural) and the corresponding verb forms are different: vosotros (dos) coméisyou (both) eat, ellos comenthey eat; on the other hand, "ustedes" is the formal second person pronoun (like Sie in German)

The aforementioned statements can be applied now for the affirmative imperative. Traditionally, it was considered that only the second person belongs to the imperative mood and the remaining forms are taken from the present subjunctive tense. As for the negative imperative, it always uses the present subjunctive forms:

person (plural) present subjunctive affirmative imperative negative imperative
America 2nd (ustedes) salgan, construyan (no) salgan, (no) construyan
3rd (ellos/as)
Spain 2nd (vosotros/as, informal) salgáis, construyáis salid, construid (no) salgáis, (no) construyáis
2nd (ustedes, formal)
3rd (ellos/as)
salgan, construyan (no) salgan, (no) construyan

Thanks for your explication. The spanish imperativo is a little bit complicated for germans. Therefor I dont mix it aditionally with the latin-american forms. --Thirunavukkarasye-Raveendran (discusión) 17:57 15 mayo 2014 (UTC)
