Etimología editar

Del protoitálico *ark-eje/o- ("contener"), y este del protoindoeuropeo *h₂(o)rk-eye/o-, de *h₂erk- ("tener").1 Compárese el hitita har(k)- ("tener"), el griego antiguo ἀρκέω (arkéō, "evitar, defender") y el armenio antiguo արգել (argel, "obstáculo").1
